It's a city that's been highly prejudiced, but I hope that in some way, this missive will allow you to look at the country's capital in a different light.
Europe eyes the Philippines as Asian security anchor
Strategic ties between European countries and the Philippines are set to grow as leaders recognize the importance of countering China's rising military activity near Taiwan and the South China Sea.
"The plan has also drawn criticism both domestically as well as internationally, from neighboring countries such as #SouthKorea, the #Philippines and #China. Their argument is that this is a transboundary issue — that waste water released by Japan is not going to just stay in and around Japan." #Fukushima#NuclearPlant
The Ph movie board is considering banning the film "Barbie" because it shows China's invalid 9-dash-line claim in a map. Vietnam has already banned the movie.
In the case of the #Philippines, #voting does not keep the fascists out but rather brings them into power. The question is, why is it that people vote for fascists? Is it because they are themselves fascist? No, I don't think so. I think people vote for fascists precisely because they are alienated from true political agency. #Fascism presents itself as empowering, promising agency that people lack. People want lower prices, Marcos promises to enact their wishes, an avatar for the people's agency. But the agency presented by electoral fascism is precisely Spectacular—it is an image of power rather than power itself, a Spectacle in the Situationist sense.
The challenge then is to smash this Spectacular agency and capacitate people to practice their agency directly—mutual aid, popular assemblies, direct democracy outside the state, etc.
The ballot presents us with false Spectacular agency, and it's up to us to provide true agency.

Today, I was at Bonifacio Global City (BGC), a lot of people took a photo of me, or with me, because of this anime headgear I always wear.
Only catch, I just finished running, so I was tired. 😅😅
But, yeah, it was a new experience.
UPDATE (2023-07-02): Thank you to adgaps@mastodon.online for identifying the character! It is #Kyuubey from “Magical Girl Madoka Magica” (“Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika” / #魔法少女まどかマギカ). All these years I thought it was Mokona from Magic Knight Rayearth, with some style the creator of the headgear addded.
“Larry Gadon, a lawyer suspended by the Supreme Court (SC) for his verbal assault on a journalist, has been appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation, said the Palace on Monday.”
Aside: Brands 1–14 listed above are available here in the #Philippines, even though some of those were made exclusively for certain countries and regions (and you wouldn't even see the Philippines mentioned in news and wikis).
Many of these brands already overtook #Apple, #Motorola, #Nokia, and even #Samsung in many countries, as far as sales are concerned.
So the question is:
If the accusations and assumptions against these companies are true, where do we draw the line?
Last time, we talked about the origins of the Manila Carnival and how we found our first queen, in so many senses of the word, in Pura Garcia Villanueva Kalaw. Now, in episode 23.2, we’ll follow the Carnival as it comes into its own. This is Part Two: Becoming Miss Philippines, 1909 to 1926.
I really hope that DTI requires online shopping platforms to check if their sellers are offering authentic products. And more importantly, make these platforms accountable for allowing dishonest sellers.
I see a lot of fake watches being sold on both platforms. It would be sad to see people being duped by these sellers.
(By fake, I mean a product that bears a brand logo, but was not manufactured by the company that owns the said brand logo.)
