Since this is just a mockup im working on does anyone know any CSS rule that could help me align the stuff in the sidebar? I know how to use flexbox to make it line up vertically but this is like a diagonal thing that follows what I assume will be a divs rotated edge. Any way I can do this?

Am I imagining things, or are there features in web browsers’ developer tools to detect synthesized / faux font weights?

It's official! I'm now a proud participant in the IndieWeb! :pensive_party_blob:

Microformats, webmentions, feed, automatic backfeed from Mastodon... the whole package!

I just wished for clearer documentation.. figuring out how to interconnect the various pieces was quite a nightmare, but very simple once understood.

I tend to think we lost the benefits of mobile-first design and development when we emphasized fluid layouts instead of accounting for:

  1. crap (and unstable) connections,
  2. limited processing power,
  3. limited I/O capabilities (ex. no hover and less precise),
  4. constrained on-device storage, and
  5. limited data plans.

(I’m sure I’m missing a couple.)

Mastodon Bird UI is now in version 2.0.0rc30. To this version I've been experimenting with the new 2024-03 v4.3.0-alpha.3 UI and @nileane Tangerine UI's compact header on mobile, thanks for the inspiration and shortcuts code-wise! :bunhdheart:

This version also includes some slight fixes, icons and other improvements.

The release v2.0.0 will be massive, but we're not there yet with Mastodon v4.3.0 and because I'm following the Mastodon mainline and there is no ETA, I'm taking it easy as well.

Available on the nightly branch: https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/mastodon-bird-ui/tree/nightly

Not sure if you noticed but half the is memes. They're not my thing but I enjoyed putting together the best meme consumption experience I could.

Check it out in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXVhb4sVZV4 or go to https://piefed.social/topic/chilling/memes?layout=masonry_wide&sort=hot to use it yourself. Click/tap on any image for a full screen lightbox-style image gallery that you can move through by swiping or using the arrow keys.

Can you think of any improvements?

It really does say something about and how it feels so bloated that I can use a text browser like this just to get rid of all the scruff and it feels revolutionary. Quite honestly, if someone were to make a modern version of this designed for Blind users I'd throw money at them so fast you couldn't blink! https://www.webbie.org.uk/webbrowser/index.htm

When I worked at Technicolor (back when that was still a thing) one of the systems engineers said that he had been responsible for a site about a prominent figure who had passed away. The site was written in PHP and on an under-provisioned server which kept failing under the new spike in traffic.

He wrote a script to fetch the index.php output, write it to an index.html file, redirected the traffic and went home.

    Sometimes I code cool things.

If you're a patron on Patreon, you may have already seen this interactive demo and the filter effects the basics of which it illustrates here.

Now it's public for everyone to see on https://codepen.io/thebabydino/pen/ZEPKeLz

I hope you like it, getting the layout right ended up being hundreds of hours of work.

Extracting a single channel from the input is what made the following possible with little code, no text duplication whatsoever and no wrapping of individual letters in an element each.

    ✨ complex shadows
    ✨ wavy text
✨ randomly offset letters in paragraph
