Flatpak just received a new update 👀

New features:

  • Automatically reload D-Bus session bus configuration after installing or upgrading apps, to pick up any exported D-Bus services

Bug fixes:

  • Expand the list of environment variables that Flatpak apps do not inherit from the host system
  • Don't refuse to start apps when there is no D-Bus system bus available
  • Don't try to repeat migration of apps whose data was migrated to a new name and then deleted
  • Fix warnings from newer GLib versions
  • Always set the container environment variable
  • In flatpak ps, add xdg-desktop-portal-gnome to the list of backends we'll use to learn which apps are running in the background
  • Avoid leaking a temporary variable from /etc/profile.d/flatpak.sh into the shell environment
  • Avoid undefined behaviour of signed left-shift when storing object IDs in a hash table
  • Fix Docbook validity in documentation
  • Skip more tests when FUSE isn't available
  • Fix a misleading comment in the test for CVE-2024-32462

Anyone in my network interested in research and prototype network portal for Flatpak?

In the long run we are interested in:

• Give more control to users over app network access
• Allow apps that need network access to be considered “Safe”

We expect something like unsharing the network namespace and a bridge on the host for permissions / monitoring.

Was working today on kind of an entry piece for Community Design Team: a logo and new mascot for (special type of container).

His name is Bootseef and he's ready to fly through updates! 🚀🚀 Thanks to Madeline Peck and Design Team for the sketches, sources and color choices that inspired me. 👋 I enjoyed doing this particular mascot the most.

@fedora.design@peertube.linuxrocks.online and have lots of work on their plate, so I invite aspiring and designers by trade to have a looksie-look in their GitLab issues. @fedora has engineering and other teams worth their gold, making software great, as well.

Purple container with cartoon childish eyes, hands, belly power button and yellow boots. His name is Bootseef and he's about to press or take his finger off of that power button. Incidentally, boots now look like a pair of flames from the imaginary jetpack. Power of rebooting gives it speed to proceed faster with updates. While there is the colored mascot demonstrated in multiple sizes, it comes with monochromatic solid black and white representations ready for use on websites and various media.
