I can confidently diagnose as sociopaths.

Promised therapy customers privacy...then gave their mental health info to advertisers.

Victims get less than ten bucks each.

Company made billion+ in revenue last year alone.

In a just society with good privacy laws, they'd face existential civil & criminal consequences.

Have you noticed your Facebook feed being taken over by AI spam recently? @jasonkoebler has spent four months looking into it — what’s real, what’s not and what is a mixture of the two, creating what he calls “a disastrous website where there is little social connection at all.” Read more about his investigation over at @404mediaco.

The EU is getting ready to launch an investigation into Meta over its handling of election-related content, reports @engadget

Full details of the investigation are expected later this week, but concerns have reportedly been raised about “deceptive advertising and political content” on Meta’s platforms. EU officials are also unhappy about Meta’s plan to shut down CrowdTangle in August, a move the researchers and fact checkers who use the tool have called a “direct threat to election integrity efforts around the world.”

By banning (or forcing sale of) TikTok (which I loathe), Congress -- Democrats as well as Republicans -- and a Democratic president just performed extreme censorship of the Internet.

They claimed it was for your privacy, but that is a flagrant and stupid lie.

They believe you have no privacy rights, and deserve none, and have made that clear again and again.

We need public spaces controlled by the public, not rapacious companies and control-freak lawmakers.

then you demand we go after

: "Our key findings:

Even six months after the ban, a large number of Canadians (approximately 33%) still say they use Meta’s flagship social media platforms Facebook or Instagram for access to Canadian political and current affairs information.

The Facebook Pages of national news outlets lost approximately 64% of their Facebook engagement following the end of news availability for Canadian users. Local news outlets lost approximately 85%. Almost half of all local news outlets stopped posting on Facebook entirely in the four months following the ban.

Engagement with politically relevant pages and groups has remained unchanged since the ban, suggesting politically-oriented users have not reduced their Facebook usage.

Members of politically-oriented Facebook Groups have circumvented the ban by posting screenshots of Canadian news articles. Although there are fewer screenshots of news post-ban than there were links to news articles pre-ban, the total engagement with news content in these Groups has remained consistent.

Overall, we observe that the end of news availability on Facebook has resulted in a significant decrease in engagement for Canadian news outlets, but has not substantially changed the behavior of Canadian Facebook users." https://www.mediaecosystemobservatory.com/reports/state-of-the-canadian-media-ecosystem-ldra7?s=09

Meta and Lavender

Lavender is Israel's system of "pre-crime" - they use AI to guess who to kill in Gaza, and then bomb them when they're at home, along with their entire family. One input to the AI is whether you're in a WhatsApp group with a suspected member of Hamas. Where are they getting this data? Is WhatsApp sharing it? Paul Biggar writes.

So I’ve been here a little while and I still poke my head into ig now and then but im not invested anymore.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in my mental health. Huge.

Ive also noticed when I talk to friends on ig or twitter or TikTok it feels a little bit like talking to smokers.

I feel like a scold but I also feel like…you know this is bad for you. Why are you still on there? And worse, why are you getting news there?

Anyone else have this experience?

  4. ,
  5. Various accounts (, , etc),
  6. Various ,
  7. Lot of feeds,
  8. And may be some other things I do not remember.

Now, I only use a new Mastodon account to share my mental health journey.

I had removed the others. Sometime I still watch Youtube videos with app (no account).

I feel much better!
