Also, the GCash app hate any devices with Developer mode set to ‘on’.
It is part of the Philippine fintech movement to “blame the customers instead of improving our security”. It started last year 2023.
Their argument is that the accounts of their customers are getting compromised because of the #Android#Developer mode.
I highly doubt half of those compromised account have Developer mode ‘on’. I know a lot of people who don't even know what in the world “Developer mode” is, yet their accounts were compromised regardless. And I'm seriously tired of it because they all come to me when I don't even work for GCash (and if I can't help them, I'm suddenly ungrateful, blah blah blah).
Anyway, to supposedly solve it, banks and fintech companies are now blocking all devices with developer mode ‘on’.
LOL. GCash even added “another layer of security”: they won't allow anyone with the setting “install from other sources” turned on. Guess what? There are highly popular brands from China/Taiwan with “install from other sources” turned-on by default. The phone that was stolen from me was one such model and brand. There just was no way to turn it off (unless you root it, which itself will be detected as well).
I stopped using GCash after that. I can't even use their app.
Basically, banks and fintech in the #Philippines are implementing “security measures” that are not even the the reason why their customers' accounts are getting compromised.
Instead of improving their systems, they blame their customers.
For example. BPI is the largest and richest bank in the country. Yet to this day, they still rely on SMS two-factor authentication, which is the weakest of all 2FA methods. All it takes is a simple social engineering, and most people fall for that and they don't even know it (there were cases of these back in, more or less 2018 but nope, they did nothing, they just blamed their customers). Or, get your phone stolen. Ordinary thieves are far more knowledgeable than we are giving them credit for.
Always told my wife, not use cash apps like Venmo, GCASH

From 2010 to 2017, there was a thing called #AseanCitizen that we Aseans started as a grassroots movement. We were all bloggers from across, well, #ASEAN or South-East Asia.
Some of us joined together to produce one of the best multi-authored regional blogs. We talked about our cultures, write about what makes the region awesome. As well as, try to address the oftentimes silly and sometimes heated debates.
It's all gone now. Forgotten. The blogs dead or offline. We all grew up, got busy with our personal lives, and moved on separately. And the important reason? We lost interest in it as we started to see ASEAN was, is, and will never be for the grassroots.
That was the end of what was once a vibrant grassroot ASEAN Citizens effort. We did it all voluntarily. Without a single recognition from the top-down organisation that is ASEAN.
But today? ASEAN is still a top-down organisation. They kept trying to get the grassroots involved, but they are always failing. Why? Because it is a top-down organisation, as simple as that. They will never understand until they shift their mindset and approach to bottom-up.
(P.S I want to restart this grassroots movement, but I just no longer have the spark. Give me a very good reason why I should give it another chance. Or, at least, guide the new generation.)
I can't say it's a /good/ reason, but i'd like it to exist. One american oddball would really appreciate a place to read about those poorly represented cultures. Indonesia is 7k islands and the 4th largest country in the world and i know fuck-all about the culture. It's easier to find information on african cultures than asean.
But i know that, because it's something i'd like, basically nobody else will. At least here.
@youronlyone@asean@pilipinas@philippines@pinoy In my worldview SEA countries are severly underrepresented online. As a european, the only connection to the region I have is food. I`d love to learn more.
Here are some dating tips, nothing grand, but can be useful.
Know how to say “I love you” in the #Filipino language because we have two for romantic relationships.
“Mahal kita” = This is your “I love you” in English. It can be used romantically or for family and relatives.
mahal = ma (as in “mama”) + hal (as in ha + L) which means “love”
kita = ki (as in ‘ki’ in “kit”) + ta (as in ‘ta’ in “tank”) which means “you”
“Iniibig kita” = This can be translated into English as “I deeply love you” or “I deeply desire you” or both; and should only be used romantically. You could say it is a poetic way of saying “I love you”, however, it is more than that.
iniibig = i-ni-i-big (i = as in the sound of saying the letter “e” = iihh) which means “[deeply] love”
Understand what “mutual understanding” or “m.u.” is.
It's actually simple. “Mutual understanding” is that stage wherein two people are already comfortable with each other, but are still not officially dating. Usually, they do not know they like each other; however, there are those who choose it because they are not sure yet (especially permission from parents).
If the person you like decides to be in an M.U. relationship, don't take it negatively. It is a sign that they are considering dating you, just that, there are still things they need to settle on their end. Give them some time.
You need to clarify your relationship.
Never assume that you are dating. I've seen “couples” who never made it clear and later was shocked the other partner finally have a “boyfriend” or “girlfriend”. The surprised party felt “cheated” but in reality, no one cheated, they were never dating in the first place!
It is important to make your relationship clear.
Are you dating exclusively? “Exclusively”, meaning, there are no one else both parties are dating.
Or, are you in an “open relationship”? An “open relationship” is a relationship wherein you allow each other to have other dates.
Are you actually dating, M.U., or just friends?
Are you “officially” dating? “Officially”, meaning, both of your parents know (regardless if they agreed to it or not).
“PDA” or “Public Display of Affection”
This is publicly holding hands, hugging, kissing (cheeks, lips), being overly sweet with each other.
Filipinos are generally fine with it. If you don't like it, a Filipino date might misinterpret it as you not being proud of them. Thus, if it is not in your culture to show PDA, then make it clear with the Filipino you are dating, to avoid misunderstandings.
There are also some Filipinos who are not into PDA, so, you need to be open about it. And limits.
You are not just dating one person, you are dating the entire family.
Filipinos are family-centric. And when it comes to Filipino, be sure to treat their families well.
This is a good thing. If your partner is telling you what to do, it means they really want to date you.
That's just 5 when it comes to dating. Marriage proposal is a whole different matter. We have our own form “dowry”, although less practised today, it is still good to know, especially if the Filipino you want to marry is traditional. (They may not tell you anything because you're a foreigner, but deep inside they're expecting it.)
@youronlyone@pilipinas@pinoy .Yes sometimes people wonder why the other ( Filipina, Filipino) does something that seems strange. It may be as you say matter of her/ his family that brings this about! 😉👍😍
You bring forth some very good points, many do not think about when cultures differ! 👍
Family is everything, in a Filipino's life, coz when it all comes down. They may be the only ones they have to turn to, so don't disregard tor disrespect or you will LOSE!
@youronlyone@pilipinas@pinoy > They also are the buffer between your and her family a difficult position to be in sometimes. Don't make it harder on her!
It's about a #deaf artist (art) and teacher guy and a woman who is struggling to become an actor. They met by accident and started to find an unlikely and unexpected friendship.
First time I pushed myself since I recovered from pneumonia and a water in my left lung (mid to late 2021).
I used the closed roads being used by two race events, #EarthRun and #ASICS run. 😜
I think being with fellow runners made it easier. I didn't feel any pain and I rarely had to catch my breath. Though I was still slow as compared to before I got sick, and had a lot of walks than runs, this was still far better than whenever I ran 5k solo this year.
As a Gen #Xennial (1975/8 to 1983/5), and from the #Philippines where my era was all about #hiphop / #rap, my taste has always been wideleg and bootcut + waist or low waist.
It's good seeing our era in fashion is making a comeback. I mean, we won't hear Gen Z and Gen Alpha whispering #oldie or #classic when we're outside. 🤣🤣😅😅😂😂😅😅
Why is it that in #romantic and #romcom#dramas, when a woman cannot reach something, the guy would reach it for her from her back.
If it was me, I would hold her at her waist and lift her up. I think that's sweeter and more charming. And if you feel like going a mile, turn her and sat her on the table, and tease her with pecks.
If we're in the kitchen when that scenario happens, because she wants to cook food, then I'll tell her to just sit there and watch me cook instead; and while cooking, I will steal kisses on her cheeks, but no lips.
The taste of the food doesn't matter; nor the food itself (could be instant ramen/ramyeon/noodle). If I failed, we'll surely have laughter, and she can tease me back. If the food's good, it's a plus.
@youronlyone I get your drift but it's mainly to introduce the near contact between to people and hands on is way to direct 😉 like in the movie ghost, where he leads her hands with the clay. It is seen as romantic and he is so near without it being to direct. Same with tennis player and teacher, the often use it there too.
This account I'm using now is from the https://c.im instance or @youronlyone ^_^ I can also use my @youronlyone account (which is not Mastodon software); or my @youronlyone (think of “Instagram”, Pixelfed is for photos and images with more than 4 attachments; Mastodon is strictly 4 images only).
@blobcat@youronlyone@t2pub This is what annoyed me with the original T2 Pebble expecting everyone to have a full fledged PC. I have Pixels, iDevices and a Pixelbook and tbh the official app is bad on the Pixel but thankfully with Megalodon and Ivory theming options I can do this without problems.
In the original pebble.is, I installed it as a PWA and works great that way. It's actually where websites are headed in the future, less consumption of resources (skills, time, money) since it's basically a mobile version of the website only, not a native app.
I'm not sure how it works with Apple devices, but for the #Firefish fediverse software, its PWA for Apple devices works fine. So, I understand Apple's Safari browser supports PWA.
If you haven't tried PWA yet, you can check https://phanpy.social and login using your existing Mastodon account. You can use Firefox or Chrome. After logging-in, click the menu of the browser, and you should see something like “Install”.
It will create an icon on your device. Close the browser, then tap on the icon. It will load the mobile version of the website as if it is a native app.
If you haven't been paying attention, It has been only barely 3 days since #Pebble closed its doors and many are moving to the #Fediverse and settling in over at https://pebble.social.
However, prior to that, when the announcement of the shutdown was first made, the first thing that happened was the creation and marketing of the hashtag #T2pub. The purpose of the hashtag was to make it easier to discover content from former #PebbleIs users, regardless of where in the fediverse you are located.
A few days later, the @t2pub was born. It is a fediverse #group. Anyone who is following the group is guaranteed to receive the latest T2pub group content shared by other users. As compared to the hashtag, it relies heavily on if the user was already discovered by an account's local instance.
Finally, pebble.social was born; and former Pebble users who migrated earlier to the Fediverse are moving to it.
Now, this is interesting because there is now a growing sub-community within the Fediverse network. Former #T2social users who primarily wish to interact with fellow former #T2 users; while, at the same time, keeping the lines open for interaction with the wider fediverse.
If we look at it from a #SciFi or #Fantasy or #ScienceFantasy perspective, if different star systems (for example Sol System) are the software, and the different planets (for example Planet Mars) are the instances; we've just witnessed migrants from the “Pebble Universe” after it collapsed.
These migrants found a planet of their own and called is Pebble.Social which is located in the Mastodon star system.
And those who landed on other planets are relocating to the Pebble.social Planet; however, as they are still settling in this new world and new universe, they are still primarily concerned on their own planet. Building it up. Setting up their communities.
@dan Hmm… personally, you don't have to think about it. Just compose. ^_^
Adding hashtags (and @-group tag) is something you get used to and is optional. If other people reshare your content, it will be seen by their followers and they can reply back.
To borrow from food phrases, “it's an acquired taste”. ^_^

I agree. Have complicated my life slightly by being on two instances at the same time. I recently joined this one to be with my Pebble friends but I don't want to give up my .nz one until this one is better established (given that it was descibed as an experiment when it first started).
For [mainline] #Mastodon users who want to be able to follow the “Local” and/or “Federated” timeline(s) of a different instance without creating yet another account can use the #Phanpy frontend.
More info:
There are 3 different layouts. In my screenshots, I used the multi-column layout to demonstrate how I'm seeing the different instances' “Local” and “Federated” timelines.
In addition to the above, you can also see the following features:
Auto-translate
Highlights
Threads
CW
Click to refresh (or scroll to top to refresh) -- a setting
Dark mode
Following 5 hashtags in one column (similar to Mastodon's default frontend)
