"UK may demand tech world tell it about upcoming security features"

More pointless posturing from the English state. Such a demand would be unenforceable unless many other countries do exactly the same.

PH government agencies warn people about using the popular 90s AI Yearbook app, which uses 8-12 of your photos to generate retro-themed images.

The "photos could be used for malicious purposes, namely, for the fabrication of false identities online, identity theft, data breaches, phishing, sexual exploitation, ransomware attacks, and other forms of malicious activities."

"Today, we are proposing a rule to give consumers the power to walk away from bad service and choose the financial institutions that offer the best products and prices."

“The rule bans banks from charging their customers junk fees to access their data, and bans businesses you give that data to from "collecting, using, or retaining data to advance their own commercial interests through actions like targeted or behavioral advertising." It also guarantees you the unrestricted right to revoke access to your data.

The rule is intended to replace the current state-of-the-art for data sharing, which is giving your banking password to third parties who go and scrape that data on your behalf. This is a tactic that comparison sites and financial dashboards have used since 2006, when Mint pioneered it:

So just asked me if I wanted to create a post with some photos I had downloaded onto my phone. It was album artwork I had uploaded to use with some music tracks, they weren't even in my main DCIM album, but evidently, good ol' has scoured my entire phone looking for pictures. That's not creepy at all! And people are falling over each other to join SMH :blobcatglance:

Stories like this remind us why being mindful of protecting one's privacy online is important and that "private" messages in the majority of places aren't private at all without end-to-end encryption.

Be mindful of what sensitive data you're relinquishing to companies.

Since my post about the app and is still getting lots of attention, I want to be clear about how I actually feel about .

It's a lot like . Yeah it's a good thing to protect your own personal data, but if we're being honest, it's not effective on an individual scale. We need good legislation at a national level to meaningfully change the game for the benefit of us all. Until then, no matter how careful you are, you're still being negatively affected.

MFers are really bragging about running to a social media platform being operated by the same company which destroyed your country with Facebook, harvested data on every aspect of your life with Instagram, and made "the next big thing" unusable when they data-gated Oculus.

Like, do you all even think about the consequences of your actions, or do you just blindly follow orders like good little sheep?
