Dropped some updates to selfh.st/apps this morning - tiles now have visible/clickable tags, URL properties have been added for sharing custom views with others, and I've added a ton of new project icons.
I'm completely open to feedback on future improvements, but probably won't consider adding any more details to the tiles to prevent them from becoming too cluttered.
Mobile apps that help people travel by car have been serving drivers for years. But what about those who choose to go by bike or foot? Writing for @theverge, Allison Johnson describes her venture into cycling and where Komoot came in to help her find the best routes. https://flip.it/QUdyix #Tech#Commute#Bicycle#Apps
I would absolutely love to get my hands on the new @loops Android or iOS app by @dansup to start using it and testing it.
As many of you know, I do beta testing all day everyday since I work for a large Android app and most all of the software I use is beta of some form.
It would make for a great experience to dive in early and see what it's all about and report feedback as much as possible to help make it the best app out there today!

I'm launching a new sister project to the self-hosted apps directory I launched a few weeks ago and am giving the #fediverse a sneak peek because I need your help!
What are your favorite companion apps for the self-hosted services you deploy?
They must support software that can be self-hosted, be relatively up-to-date, and can be closed source.
Comment below or send me a DM with your suggestions. Thanks!
I've been using AVG's Alarm Clock Extreme and am looking to make the switch to a libre option. Any recommendations? The more customization options, the better. I go crazy with my alarm optimization.
Does the world need another photo-sharing platform? Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer thinks so.
Last week, her company launched the Shine app, which "automatically creates albums around gatherings of people you know and uses AI to remove duplicates, picking out the best ones."
Yahoo is buying Artifact, the AI news app, for an unknown sum. Co-founders Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom will be "special advisors" to Yahoo but won't be joining the company. Here's more from @verge's @imdavidpierce
Reports of the death of Artifact, the AI-powered news app, may have been exaggerated. While the company announced in January that it was to close the following month, it's still functioning. “It takes a lot less to run it than we had imagined,” co-founder Kevin Systrom confirmed to TechCrunch, adding that it’s just himself and co-founder Mike Krieger running Artifact right now. He told TechCrunch it will still likely go away — but not just yet, and that he and Krieger are "exploring all possible routes for it going forward." Here's more from @Sarahp
You can now hire a driver to DriveYourCar on th Grab app. "This innovative offering allows customers to hire a professional driver to navigate their own vehicle through the city."
When we think of tracking or surveillance, we often think of Facebook, Instagram or Google but Viber (chat app) and Canva (photo editing) also do some tracking.
This was a fun one to write up: the latest entry in my classic #iPhone#apps series is the wonderful Apollo, by @christianselig. Many thanks to Christian for the interview!

Over the weekend, hackers targeted federated social networks like Mastodon to carry out ongoing spam attacks that were organized on Discord, and conducted using Discord applications....
It's worth reviewing the apps on your mobile device regularly and uninstalling as many as you can, because every app is a potential attack vector (and an actual surveillance peephole).
Ask yourself
Do I really use this app?
Could I replace it with a shortcut to a mobile website (e.g. news, social media, discussion forums)?
Which alarm clock apps do you use?
I've been using AVG's Alarm Clock Extreme and am looking to make the switch to a libre option. Any recommendations? The more customization options, the better. I go crazy with my alarm optimization.
Discord took no action against server that coordinated costly Mastodon spam attacks ( techcrunch.com )
