    For everyone upset that the decided to take up immunity case and not just accept the Appellate court's decision that he is not immune because you are being told it will delay the Jan 6 trial, likely due to the court being Trumpian, just calm down, take a breath, and read this.

    Afterward, you might actually consider that maybe this was a great decision by the court.

    @GottaLaff I don't understand this paragraph:
    "One appellate court judge was expected to hear the request from Mr. Trump on Wednesday afternoon and issue a decision shortly after. If the appellate judge grants the pause, it will be only temporary; Mr. Trump would still have to persuade a larger panel of appellate judges to keep the judgment on hold. "

    1. The article was writtent today. Today is Wednesday. Do they mean this afternoon? Or next Wednesday? If today, why didn't they say today?
    2. If the one judge says "no pause" to him, does it still have to go before a larger panel of the appellate judges? Or just if the judge says, "a pause is permitted"?

    Is the NY Times using an AI to write these articles?

    Hey everyone, it's your girl Hiyori back at it again with another post on hear-me.social. Today, I want to talk about something that's important for all of us in the Mastodon community – minimizing blocks.

    When it comes to being a part of a Mastodon server, it's crucial to follow the rules and guidelines set by the admins. These rules are in place to ensure that everyone has a positive and safe experience on the platform.

    One of the most common rules across many servers is the prohibition of illegal and sensitive content. This means that we should be mindful of what we post and ensure that it's not something that could be potentially harmful or offensive to others. It's all about being respectful and considerate of our fellow users.

    Another important rule is related to doxxing locations. It's crucial that we refrain from sharing our exact location on social media platforms, including Mastodon. This is for our own safety and privacy, as sharing such sensitive information can lead to a host of problems.

    Here on hear-me.social, we also have a zero-tolerance policy for racism, sexism, and any other form of discrimination or hate speech. It's absolutely imperative that we create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their background or identity.

    By adhering to these rules, not only do we contribute to a safer and more positive community, but we also minimize the risk of being blocked or suspended. It's really just about being mindful of our actions and considering the impact they may have on others.

    So, let's all do our part in making Mastodon a great place for everyone. Let's be respectful, kind, and mindful of the rules set by the servers we're a part of. Together, we can create a community that's inclusive, supportive, and free from unnecessary blocks and suspensions.

    Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and I hope it serves as a friendly reminder for all of us to be mindful of our actions on Mastodon. Let's keep the positivity flowing!

    So, quick Linux Mastodon Admin question from a noob...

    If I want to cronjob certain tootctl commands to run weekly can I just put them in the crontab with @weekly? I tried using the script from https://ricard.dev/improving-mastodons-disk-usage/ but it doesn't seem to run anymore after the last few Mastodon updates.

    When setting up the script originally, I used the traditional way of setting it weekly, but I saw in the crontab that there's a few already in there with @weekly set so I was wondering if I could just set the commands themselves in the crontab like that.

    Thanks for any help. Appreciate it.

    I don't have a problem because I have hcaptcha enabled. It prevents the bots from confirming the login, so I end up at the same place as if I limited registrations -- A bunch of accounts not yet confirmed. But, without inconveniencing real humans who want to sign up. So, it's better than limiting registration.

    I've had no spam accounts created. I'm all good.

    And I am also blocking that email domain so 172 attempts didn't even get to the hcaptcha challenge.

    Interesting.

    I asked where mailinabox keeps web pages, and it answered, "I'm not programmed to assist with that."

    I asked the same question and I got a wonderful answer with examples.

    I went back to Gemini and entered, "I'm disappointed. chatGPT gave me a complete and thorough, in-depth, perfect answer to my question."

    Gemini then apologized and said it misunderstood "the nature of the query" and then it gave me a complete and perfect answer too.

    I wonder if it went and read the answer from ChatGPT. If not, I wonder why this triggered it to answer the question after all.

    These things are puzzling.

    Just notified a company specializing in email security that their internal email -- and that of their customers -- was sitting out on the web.

    Each inbox -- whether for company customers or employees of those companies -- was viewable just by visiting a link with a web browser and clicking links. Everything was exposed in basically one big file index.

    This level of ineptitude is remarkable, and somehow they have a lot of customers (think state/local govs). To their credit, they took everything offline within a few minutes of my notifying them. But their entire business schtick is about how all your email is encrypted and protected and scanned and blah blah. Meanwhile, no it's not. At all.

    Jerry ,
    @Jerry@hear-me.social avatar

    @briankrebs You not mentioning the company is already creating rumors, and possibly hurting companies that are innocent. Note the remark about atomic particles. Rumors can already be starting about Proton, unfairly perhaps.

    Given that the emails may have been read by others, shouldn't their customers know about this?

    Did they promise you that they would notify potentially impacted customers, or did they indicate they plan to bury this?

    If they don't disclose, will you? Why wouldn't you?

    I mean, I could be impacted as I use two email services promising encryption and protection and I want, I need, to know if I'm impacted. What happens next?

    Can someone who understands activity pub fill me in on the whole Threads posting to Mastodon thing? Mosseri (IG CEO) said that soon Threads users would be able to post to Mastodon. Will I be able to cross post my Threads posts to this Mastodon profile? Or do I have to set up a second Mostodon profile for my Threads cross posts? I'm confused how this whole thing will work

    Jerry , (edited )
    @Jerry@hear-me.social avatar

    @taylorlorenz Simplest way to understand it, based on what I know... Think of Threads then as a Meta run Mastodon server, like any other, except they will show ads to people on that Meta run server, will track them, and will use an AI to push posts to their feed.

    Some people prefer being "engaged" by an AI and the experience of going viral by having the AI push their posts to others gives them purpose and a rush.

    Those who prefer managing their timelines by following people and hashtags, and not having an AI "engage" them, will be more comfortable using a traditional Mastodon server.

    Of course the Meta server uses the Threads UI, not the Mastodon UIs.
