People can have more than one thing they consider important, you know. "This one thing that matters to me is happening, no other events are relevant" is a poor mindset, IMO.

Besides, would Trump be handling Israel any better than Biden? Does he have some soft spot for Gaza that we're all unaware of? Because I'm pretty sure he's been sucking Netanyahu's dick for years already, too.

If neither candidate will stop the genocide, it's our responsibility to refuse both candidates.

Okay, well reality doesn't really afford us this option, as much as we'd like it. We can piss and moan all day about what we should do, but that's a separate discussion from what we can do. And what we can do is make our votes be as impactful as possible with the options we have available.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

You can do much more than vote.

Right, but this is specifically about the election, where the one and only thing you can do is vote. At the end of the day, we're all still looking at the same two options on the ballot, that part isn't changing.

If they could more reliably hit their targets accurately, they'd be a top-tier pick, IMO. Unfortunately, I find that they miss often enough to discourage me from bringing it into missions as often.

Tesla Lays Off Entire Team Behind Brakes ( www.theonion.com )

AUSTIN, TX—In the latest round of layoffs for the company’s struggling automotive division, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla fired the entire team behind brakes, sources confirmed Wednesday. “As we continue to rightsize the Tesla workforce, we have come to the decision that stopping the car is no longer a critical...

Helldiver may be unable to stand up from crouching when surrounded by enemies.

Here I was thinking this was an intentional mechanic, that the enemies were "dogpiling" you and pinning you to the ground. Glad to see this may get fixed! Nothing worse than having a gang of Hunters lock you down in place while a Charger rears up to send you across the map.

You can definitely use SCs that you find in-game to buy warbonds. I own all three of the currently-available premium warbonds, and I only paid real money for one of them. The other two I bought with SCs I picked up from missions, and I currently have another 1K SCs ready to buy the next one.

I'm a little disappointed with the armor; these sets look like they could've been a perfect way to add a new armor perk that lets you traverse snow more effectively. Imagine if they had built-in Muscle Enhancement with those snow cleats! Instead we're just getting Servo-Assisted, Fortified, and Scout. Again.

Excited for the new weaponry, though.

By and large, women on Bumble don't make the first move. Opening with "Hi" isn't a move, which is what many women on Bumble do to qualify the app's requirement that the woman speaks first.

I've lost track of how many matches I've had on Bumble where they didn't quite get the point of the app, and would open with something like "Impress me". Like, there's a hundred other apps you could use if you don't actually want to make the first move, why use the ONE where you're supposed to if you're not going to do it?

It's not just that it's fun, but that Arrowhead are respecting their player base. No subscription fees, no timed battle passes, no pay-to-win mechanics, real-money currency can also be earned for free by just playing the game (I've already bought 2 warbonds with SCs that I found completely in-game, with enough currently banked to insta-buy the new one whenever it drops)... They know what players want, and they made the game to those specs. They're treating their players like people, instead of cash cows to be milked.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I wouldn't say there's anything "typical" about HD2's warbonds. They're not time-gated like normal battle passes, and they can also be purchased with currency you can find in-game.

Spending more than $40 on everything Helldivers 2 has to offer is completely optional. Even if you do spend money on warbonds, you still don't get immediate access to the new gear, as gameplay is still required to unlock the individual pieces of the warbond. The content is grindwalled, moreso than it is paywalled.

Besides lemmy, what's another good reddit alternative?

Hi! Recently exiled reddit user, here. I'm curious what other alternatives to reddit there are, besides Lemmy, and Raddle, of course. Also, imho, Phuks is a good alternative, there's no hate-speech (that I'm aware of) and people are pretty respectful. Anyways, let's hear your suggestions! Thank you!

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

it was described at the time as toxically non-toxic as in very much anti-hate speech, though I don't know how it's fared recently.

Well, the dev ended up going the "free speech" route and started allowing hateful content to be posted and the community kinda imploded on itself. Haven't looked back at that site in probably 6 months or so now.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

That's because you're on Mbin, which further complicates Lemmy's community linking process by making community links not always behave the same even though they look the same. This is something I really wish could be more properly unified across *bin and Lemmy.

I don't get the hype over this. How often do you find your day interrupted by Play Store downloads that one finds this to be an important upgrade? My apps generally update while I'm asleep, I pretty much never need to wait for them.

Ahh yeah, that's a good point, I forgot about the recovery process. In that case, yeah I can absolutely see this saving a bunch of time when transferring devices.

I think this may be largely due to players not realizing that they're using it incorrectly. I keep seeing players firing the airburst rockets either directly at the ground toward enemies, or in a straight line in front of them, as they would with any other rocket launcher. I've found that aiming it above enemy groups seems to work best, as this avoids premature detonations by keeping the rocket further away from terrain and foliage, and makes much better use of the rocket's actual airburst AOE range.

In my experience, if you aim it a good 10-15 feet above your enemies' heads, it should detonate more reliably where you're expecting it to. The detonation range is pretty wide for terrain, but it's even wider for enemy units, so you can afford to aim it a bit higher than you might expect. Keep the rocket as far away from the ground as possible, and your teammates' limbs won't be liberated from their torsos quite as frequently.

I also don't recommend ever firing it at any targets 50 meters and under. The AOE of the airburst, itself, isn't 50m, but by the time the rocket's close enough to detect an enemy and detonate, it isn't far enough away from you yet to be safe, so you'll usually get caught in the blast.

I'm hoping that the updated version we should be getting next week includes a minimum priming distance before it can prox-detonate. Just making it so that the detection doesn't activate for like 10 meters or something would help out tremendously with the friendly fire incidents.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Yeah, it's still super temperamental. After playing with it some more, it seems like it's also detonating when it detects various objects in the game. So random world props like vending machines at outposts, exploding canisters, etc, all seem to register as "enemy" to the rocket.

I think anything in the game that has an HP meter, even if it's a hidden one like for world props, will detonate the rocket. Which makes it even harder to line up a shot because you need to check for any debris in your line of sight first. Really hoping this gets adjusted!

What have they done recently that made you decide not to buy from them, that they haven't already been doing for 30+ years to begin with? Nintendo's lawsuits against emulator devs aren't a new phenomenon; they've been shutting down emulator/ROM projects since the 90s.

Why do gamers spend thousands of hours on games they hate.

It's because that "hate" comes from a place of love, and isn't really hate at all. From the outside, it can be hard to understand, but the people who hate certain games the most are usually the biggest fans. They hate seeing squandered potential when something they love gets ruined by updates.

They don't hate the game, itself. They love the game, and they love what it could be under different circumstances. They love the memories they've had with the game, the connections they've made, the experiences they've shared. The "hate" they seem to have isn't really hate at all; it's passion. They love the game and want to see it in a better state. That's why they're so hyper critical, because they care the most.

The mines look like they'd be really good at dealing with enemy reinforcement calls (apparently they also make very quick work of factory striders), but I feel like the rockets will offer more frequent utility overall. Really tough call, to be honest.

Pretty sure that's a selection bias, since most fish that are eaten - or would otherwise be examined for parasites - are farm-raised fish.

If one of these is a backpack, then I think it'll be the health pack. There's an unreleased pack in the game that hackers have datamined that appears to be like the supply back, but just full of stims instead of ammo. While it could be hacked-into a live game, it wasn't completely functional yet.

Dataminers have also recently noted that this health pack has somewhat recently been modified, too. There used to be a passive buff for this item that would gradually heal you, and that seems to have been removed in a recent patch. So only because this unreleased item has recently seen some behind-the-scenes action, that I suspect that we're getting it soon.

The purpose of bone conducting earphones is that they don't obstruct your ears, so you can still hear everything around you with virtually no distortion.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I've only ever tried a pair of Aftershokz (though I think they're rebranded to just Shokz now), and they were pretty decent. I only listened to about 5 minutes worth of music, but the quality was pretty good, though it felt ever so slightly radio-y; not that I could hear static or anything, but just that there were some missing tones on the higher and lower ends, like I wasn't getting the full spectrum of sound that I should've been getting. But it's hard to tell if that's because I'm just so used to traditional earphones that go for sound isolation or if that's just expected fidelity loss through bone conduction, and I don't have any other experiences to compare that to, unfortunately. This was also quite a few years ago, so the tech may have improved since then, too.

I liked 'em, I thought they were pretty neat. If I worked in an office where I regularly had people come up for my attention or needed to clearly hear everything around me, I'd probably get a pair just for that purpose. Though personally, I still prefer earphones that offer some sort of sound isolation. The "openness" that you feel with the bone conductive phones is pretty cool, but I wouldn't want it for situations where I want to really focus on the music.

Hey Sky. As somebody who has struggled with suicidal ideation for longer than you've been alive, I'm not gonna try to convince you one way or the other. I'm not gonna list off the reasons why you shouldn't do it, or why people will miss you, or how valuable you are, or whatever else. I know it'll just be empty platitudes to you, as it often is for me when I'm in the same state. If your time is truly limited, then I'm not going to waste it with that. Besides, I'm sure you've already ruminated over those things for hours upon end, anyway.

I know that you know that some rando on the internet isn't going to offer you some world-changing perspective on life, so I'm not here to try to change your mind. To go through with this or not will always be your decision, and your decision alone. All I'm going to do is just offer you some things to think about, some questions to ask yourself. You don't need to answer or explain anything to me; if you don't even reply to this at all, that's totally fine. But I hope you at least hear me out. And I don't expect you to have an answer for any of these questions, either. I know I wouldn't have these answers, myself.

First off, you mentioned wanting to implement a dead-man's switch to alert 911 to avoid trauma. Why? If you're going to be dead, why do you care about anybody else's trauma? That's not going to be your problem to deal with - you can't be held accountable for it. Are you worried about anybody in particular finding your body? If so, why concern yourself with whether they're 9/10 traumatized or 10/10 traumatized? Chances are that this person - whose feelings you care about enough to consider in your suicide plans - is going to go through roughly the same amount of trauma in the end, so why not just rip the band-aid off and let them find you?

If there's somebody specific that you're considering in your plans, have you brought up any of this to them? What's stopping you from calling them right now and saying "I'm going to kill myself tonight, here's why, here's what I wanted you to know"? How would that call go? It would probably be more effective at trauma mitigation than hoping a timer works correctly, if anything. If your goal is to minimize the harm done to others, then the best way to do that is to be direct and brace them for it, I'd say.

You also said in the comments that you're on HRT. I know that you were a bit resistive to hearing it when somebody else brought it up, but you really should consider bringing this episode up with your doctor, as any type of hormonal therapy has the potential to exacerbate mental health issues. Your doctor can consider alternative medications, or adjusting your dosage, or supplementing your prescription with something like an antidepressant to address the suicidal ideation. It's important to recognize that what you're feeling right now is not normal or rational; you're talking about killing yourself over a thousand dollars of debt, which really isn't even that much money. This isn't going to be an Enron-level suicide (before your time, look it up). For most people, that would be like killing themselves over missing a single rent payment. I just want to highlight the disproportional escalation in this situation, in case you're not seeing it for what it is at the moment.

What's the worst that could happen with bringing it up to your doctor, anyway? They tell you your brain is broken and you'll never live a normal life without medication? Okay, big whoop. It's not like you'd have been missing out on much else, anyways. Unless you're filthy rich, life sucks whether you're chemically-balanced or not. Besides, how embarrassing would it be if your doctor heard the news of your death and said "bitch would've been just fine if she just asked for some trazodone or something"? For real, it's entirely possible that something so simple can solve so much. So please give consideration to the idea that perhaps the solution to at least some of your problems is one of a chemical nature, not concussive. I'd at least give it a shot before ruling it out.

At any rate, nobody can stop you from doing what you gotta do. I know that whatever happens, you'll have made whatever was the right decision for yourself. I just hope that the right decision is one where you stick around a bit longer. Hope things turn around for you.
