They're just trying to test if anyone will actually pull the trigger on a class action.

What would be the benefit to such a move?

Still have zero faith in Bloobers ability to put out a game that isn't mid-at-best with bad performance issues.

Did you check out The Medium? I thought they did a fantastic job with it. Even though the core gameplay loop is "explore a bit and then evade a singular enemy you can't kill" like a lot of other half-baked horror titles, the game still felt very much like a spiritual successor to Silent Hill, imo.

What an awful, yet unfortunately expected, end to his story. Hopefully people on the fringe see this as the cautionary tale that it is and try backing away from extremist social media. Otherwise we're going to see more people doing more drastic things.

Dan Clancy has already said that Twitch isn't profitable as it is. Right now, they basically only still exist because of existing contracts, otherwise Amazon would've likely pulled the plug a while ago. They can't handle their current user base; they wouldn't be able to handle YouTube refugees en masse.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Yeah that's true, and I'm honestly surprised that they've had features like that available for free for as long as they have.

I kind of wonder why they haven't attempted such a pivot already, though, as it seems like they could easily take over the gaming video space that YouTube currently dominates. Much of that audience uses Twitch already and would easily transition over to a more curated platform, so it feels like it should've been a pretty obvious move by now.

Try looking for "smart buttons". There's nothing particularly "smart" about them, but they're called that because they're meant to connect to smart home devices like lights and switches and such. They're relatively inexpensive, and while some of them are locked down to specific platforms like Hue and such, some of them are a bit more "open" and will just act as a basic, programmable button that can connect to another device/network and may require some Tasker fiddling to get working correctly.

If you don't need the buttons to be spread out across multiple locations, you could also look into a macro pad of some sort, which is basically just a keyboard with keys that you can assign various functions to. Those will typically require a PC, but can handle a lot of automated tasks pretty effectively, too.

I feel like if that was from a bullet, even from a very small round, that it would have caused more significant damage, as there's a lot of very sensitive areas in that part of the skull. To go straight through like that would also very likely have caused significant bleeding, as there's a lot of blood vessels around the face, so I imagine he'd have been a lot messier when you found him. If he was shot, he seems very lucky so far!

I think it might be more plausible that those are puncture wounds from being bitten in the face by a larger animal, like a dog as you suggested. Definitely worth taking him to the vet, tho. Hope he's feeling alright!

Calls himself a researcher, doesn't provide any of his research.

I no longer have my original research files from the crypto rabbit hole. If you want to see them, you’ll have to get my laptop back from the government. Ask them how they got it - it’s a very fun story.

Oh yeah, "the government" has all his research. Which government? Oh you know, the government. Because apparently this super genius researcher was unfamiliar with the concept of "backups".

Sometimes my weapons won't switch and when I go to iron sights it'll just show my empty hands.

This one's super annoying, but you can usually fix it by switching weapons, and toggling between first-person and third-person while ADS'ing, then switching back to the other weapon and toggling viewpoints again. But it still sucks, because it completely takes you out of the fight when it happens.

I've had it happen, but it's very inconsistent. I'm not sure if you have to be host for it to work, but I've had a very small handful of tanks die to the falling drop ship. It seems like the ship has to land directly on the tank's gun pod to work, which is hard to do because they spiral down.

It's slightly more consistent if you get lucky with drop ships that clip into each other, as sometimes both of them will go down and both do explosive damage on the ground.

Redline is a fantastic movie, one of my favorites. It used to be on YouTube for free (uploaded from the studio's official channel, so it was a legit release), but it looks like they may have pulled it some time ago.

If you were ever a fan of the F-ZERO games or enjoyed the vibe of Initial D, you need to watch this movie.

I love Charismatic Voice! Her channel has introduced me to a lot of really awesome music that I'd never heard of before, and has gotten me to really study some other songs I've already known and discover new things to love about them. I've been watching her for a few years now, and it's been really fun watching her evolve into a true metalhead.

Lemmy is still very much in its infancy. It's not even reached version 1.0 yet. While we've all been on here for a while now, its future is still very much uncertain and hasn't seen anywhere near the adoption that Mastodon and other microblog Fedi platforms have.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

Not OP, but just chiming in to say that I think most people are tired of hearing this. The "just make a new community" thing is repeated often in threads like this, and I feel like it's a bit tone-deaf to people's true complaints, which is that they just want an easy place to chat that doesn't require being an unpaid janitor. Yes, it's easy to create a community on Lemmy. But not everybody wants to run a community. There's a lot of responsibility involved beyond just registering the page on your instance of choice, and that's a daunting task for most people who just want a place to talk about their interests without having to be responsible for keeping the peace on top of it.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

Have you checked out any of the other Fediverse microblog platforms, like Misskey, Sharkey, etc? I don't really like the layout of Mastodon, but Sharkey's got a much nicer layout (with multiple customization options), and I've really been enjoying it.

Japanese law is very business-focused. For instance, their defamation laws give little regard to whether or not a claim is true; if you make public statements that hurt a business's reputation, you're likely to be punished for it. People often seem to not realize that Japan is a very conservative nation.

In his most recent announcement, he said he's bringing 2 new instance mods. But I couldn't find the actual announcement post for the new team members. Unfortunately, these days Ernest often disappears for days or weeks at a time, so there's really no telling when we'll see the impacts of this.

Wasn't this an online-only game that was already being shut down? What good is a license if there's no way to play?

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

Wouldn't that require modifying the game in some way to function? At that point, it's already an EULA-violating action which a publisher would normally revoke a license over, anyway. So why not just use pirated/cracked copies if the community's going to go the route of hosting their own network, anyway?

I'm not familiar with The Crew or its community, so I'm just not understanding what practical difference this makes for anybody still trying to play the game at this post-shutdown time.

Isn't most of that recyclable? Or at the very least, I imagine the cardstock that the holder is made from is relatively biodegradable. At least it's not a ton of plastic.

Who do you think is paying random Lemmy users to complain about headlines on news articles? Seriously, who do you imagine is behind such a ridiculous conspiracy? Where is the value in such activity?

Also, upvotes are public. We can see who upvoted him, and it wasn't bots.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

How can you possibly know if an account is or is not a bot in this age of LLMs?

You tell us, you're the one saying the other guy was "clearly upvoted by bots", you show us how you came to that conclusion, chief.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

"Bots exist" isn't an answer to "prove that post was upvoted by bots".

    Quit being obnoxious, my guy.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

Feel free to come up with your own thesis for the behaviour then.

People upvoted him because they agree with him. Not that hard to figure out.

Why do you think a bunch of discussion has formed around a falsehood where all the parties of that discussion seem to agree and yet none have discussed the subject matter at all.

Because the headline is trash, hence the conversation at hand.

WASHINGTON—In a historic ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court declared Tuesday that Americans have the right to roofies. “A sexual predator’s right to Rohypnol is an issue of personal liberty that must not be infringed upon,” said Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who grew visibly emotional during oral arguments, asserting through...

Not necessarily a writing trope, but a casting trope in fantasy TV/film that always annoyed me: British accent = fantasy accent. It's not so bad these days, but a lot of 2000s-era fantasy would just have all the actors speak in awfully fake British accents.

    Apple's new cryptocurrency is confusing.

Magnets are switching up the keyboard game with an additional keystroke setting ( techcrunch.com )

These keyboards rely on magnets and springs and activate by sensing changes in the magnetic field. Popularized by Dutch keyboard startup Wooting, these switches rely on the Hall Effect and have actually been around since the 1960s....

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

You could do that, but would there be any advantage over springs? That seems like a very expensive, over-engineered solution.

If you're curious how this happened, it's because Automoton patrols are bugged. The way they're supposed to work is the way that the Terminid patrols work, where they spawn in random locations and travel in a random direction across the map until they despawn.

But the bots are broken, and instead their patrols always go to the center of the map, instead of all the way across. When they get there, they just stop, and lock down at that spot. If you've been in the mission for a while and have been doing things that spawn a lot of patrols, you can find a ton of them. Here's a group I caught on Maia last night.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

There was a Hulk patrol just off to my right and a turret cannon just beyond it, and I didn't want to risk pulling aggro from anything with my teammates spread out so far, so I had to run aaallllllllll the way around the left and over to get to the cock rock, crawling half the way. Honestly kind of a fun experience sneaking around a few dozen bots and using craters for cover!

We ended up coming back after doing the objectives and dropped a 500kg on 'em, buddy said he got something like 23 kills from it. I wanna try to organize another bot group-up like this at some point and see just how many kills you can get with a single stratagem before it crashes the game.

    Chozo ,
    Chozo avatar

I believe there's some logic in alternating patterns being more attention-grabbing to our brains, which is why you usually see stripes on anything you need to be cautious around.

The pole isn't for locating the hydrant, per se, as much as it is for avoiding the hydrant. It's so you don't drive into it if it's covered in snow.

I pride myself of having the least deaths

This, right here. Getting all the kills doesn't matter if you're eating up all the reinforcements and constantly pulling unnecessary aggro across the map in the process. I find that "top fragger" players are insufferable in this game.
