Spitz fucked up initially with a few poor responses, but ended up being one of the most important players in getting the PSN requirements removed. For somebody employed by the studio to tell their community to refund the game was not only ballsy, but likely was a major reason Sony walked back the policy at all.

Spitz had a whole-ass redemption arc play out in 24 hours.

Fixed issue where non-host players could kick others indiscriminately including the host

I can totally see how this would be super annoying, but holy hell that is a hilarious bug. I'm glad I never saw this get abused before.

Chozo ,

Honestly, the shrapnel was great for add-clear because of its huge splash radius, which made it great at keeping your teammates safe during enemy reinforcement events from a safe distance. It was much more useful at cleaning up small enemies than it is currently at medium enemies, and doesn't really handle either one that effectively anymore. I feel like it doesn't really feel like an appropriate pick for any role right now.

Still good for dealing with nests and fabricators from afar, but we're starting to get a lot more options for this lately, as well.

I think like the railgun, the eruptor was just too strong for its own good, at a conceptual level. I mean, "sniper rifle/grenade launcher that you spawn in with for free" is kinda OP.

I still like playing at range, though, so I might give the marksman rifles another try now that the sights are fixed.

Ooohhh hell yeah, there's a lot of artists in here who I absolutely love, and I can tell that these others I'm not familiar with are going to be awesome, too! May start listening to some of these while I work tonight. Is there a Lemmy community set up already for similar music recommendations?

Chozo ,

That animation is gorgeous! It reminds me a bit of Redline, as far as how the art conveys energy and motion. This looks fun as hell.

I love this trend, because anybody who provides a serious answer whatsoever has already fallen for its trap. It's such an absolutely absurd scenario that's just specific enough to be divisive, and just vague enough that you can fill in the gaps with any preconceived notions of your own. It's impossible to provide any answer in which you can't be made to look like a clown, because every answer comes with baked-in counter arguments to it. Any answer you provide makes you look either heartless or clueless.

It almost makes me appreciate rage-bait as an art form.

EDIT: Some of you seem to have made some assumptions on my stance, and fail to realize the irony in doing so. The fact that anybody felt the need to have a multi-comment argument against this comment only proves my point, which is that it's 100% rage-bait, and you guys keep falling for it.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

You appear to have significantly misinterpreted my comment, and proved my point in doing so.

Chozo ,

I didn't talk about statistics, nor did I answer the question at all. I fully get the point; I think you've missed the point if that was your takeaway from my comment.

Change your Steam review

I’m a PS5 player, so I can’t make an impact, but if you did write a negative review (thank you, you made this happen ❤️) please consider taking the time to change it! This was clearly not AH decision and the game deserves an accurate review, it’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played and definitely the best...

In the 6+ months they knew about it, not one person realized PSN access wasn't available in all the countries they were selling to?

Localization and regional sales are typically some of the very last tasks in a game's development cycle, and six months is a lot of time for a memo to get misplaced. Configuring the Steam page's region settings for the game very likely happened in the last couple weeks before release, and somebody very likely applied the wrong default settings (likely using settings Sony would normally use for games that don't require PSN).

Not that that makes it okay, but it's not like there was some secret conspiracy at AH/Sony to hide PSN linking and intentionally sell to users they're guaranteed to issue refunds to. This was a combination of bad business decisions, poor communication, and most likely a dash of human error.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

The only message you're sending is "They gave me what I want but I'm still holding onto this anger".

We won, son. The war's over. You can let go now.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I assume they're all getting refunds, unless Sony and Valve can work something out to allow the sale in those regions again.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Damaging their sales numbers is what forced them to change their minds, yes. Who did that, again?

We took action (through reviewing the game and requesting refunds) and made demands, they responded and met the demands. I'm not sure what's gotten lost in translation here.

If you tell somebody "Do this, or else" and they do it, you're supposed to drop the "or else" part, otherwise you go from having a legitimate argument to being a bully. Sony capitulated this time, but that'll only keep up in the future if they're given positive reinforcement when they actually fix problems. If Sony gives in and the response we give them is "Fuck you anyway", they're not likely going to cooperate the next time their communities are in uproar over their next inevitable fuckup.

I'm sure the Stellar Blade community is watching us closely, hoping we don't piss off Sony too much before they make their petition to the King.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

You think I'm defending Sony?

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Okay, and what do they deserve when they do cooperate?

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

This is blowing up my feed, and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully Sony remembers this for a while.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I'd avoid their news/politics communities unless you align exactly with their stances. The mods don't hide their biases, so you're getting more narrative than content in those communities.

Their general purpose communities generally have decent discussion, though.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I just watched a video where the director of John Wick was talking about how hard he had to fight the studio to kill the puppy right at the top of the movie.

Just to clarify for anybody who misread this like I did: They kill a dog in the script of the movie. The director didn't have to actually kill a dog and film it.

If you want that kinda video, check Noem's laptop.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

They (Arrowhead + Sony) decided to make ps plus sign in mandatory on pc

Just to clarify, PS Plus is not required to play Helldivers 2 on PC. PS Plus is the upgraded, paid version of the PSN subscription. A free PSN account (which is not the same as a PS Plus account) is required.

I know I'm nitpicking, but this is a big issue at the moment for a lot of players, and I want to make sure everybody's making a properly educated decision with their money.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

That's why Spitz said to be angry in the Steam reviews instead of their Discord. People mistakenly took it as a dismissive whine, but that was actually a very important comment that I feel many people overlooked. Sony ain't gonna do anything differently unless there is actual, tangible damage to their brand. That damage doesn't come from chat rooms, that comes from storefront reviews.

Keep the bad reviews coming if you want any hope of Sony relenting.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I'd be down to give Hellpals a try.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

To be fair, the game wasn't supposed to be sold in those countries to begin with. Sony and Valve screwed up the region settings.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Honestly, I think Sony is going to be more stubborn than Valve. I saw in another thread where some people were getting approved for their Steam refunds even after passing the 2-hour refund window, so it looks like Valve may already be the first to cave.

Sony's probably going to continue digging their heels in, though.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

LemmyWorld is already defederated from a lot of instances that the average user is likely to be blocking, anyway, so chances are those communities won't show up in your All feed to begin with.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

On most Lemmy instances, you can go to the bottom of the front page and click the "Instances" link, and it'll show you all the other instances that one is connected to and which ones they block.

For Lemm.ee: https://lemm.ee/instances

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

A good move, but a move that would have been a lot more appropriate before the game launched in the first place.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I'm actually really surprised that Valve is loosening up on this one. They usually play hardball when it comes to refunding a game past the 2 hour mark.

Going by the price being listed in what appears to be USD, I'm going to assume this is a US player, but is there any confirmation on where this person is from? My theory was that Valve wouldn't issue refunds unless you were from a soon-to-be-unsupported region, so that could change my thoughts on things.

EDIT: Also just noticed this was a refund back to the Steam wallet, and not to the original payment method. I've not refunded a game on Steam in many years, but is this their standard practice these days?

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I don't think Spitz or the CM position in general should be the focus of the discussion at all. He's a human, and he's got a tough job right now and a lot of people venting their frustrations at him, directly. Him having a snotty attitude after having this fiasco dropped on him is a bad look to be sure, but hardly the issue. He's not in charge of making decisions for Arrowhead or Sony, he's just the mouthpiece.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

The short version is that the anticheat software is very invasive on the user's system, and it doesn't even work to prevent cheating in the game.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

And still allowed it to be sold in regions that don't have PSN access, anyway.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

He did the test wrong because he's experimenting with "safety" algorithms that the manufacturer has provided little-to-no documentation on and is having to come up with answers on his own. Maybe he wouldn't be "doing it wrong" if Tesla hadn't over-engineered every aspect of their piece of shit truck in the first place. This thing is a solution in search of a problem, and it'll chop your fingers off until it finds it.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

There are a lot of complaints about this, but the two most legitimate ones are:

  • PSN accounts are not available in every region that Steam allowed Helldivers 2 to be sold in, so some people are going to lose access to a game they've paid for and have been playing for months
  • Sony has a bad track record with protecting users' data, and many people do not want to give Sony more access to their PII
Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Arrowhead, as the developers and artists who worked to create the game, deserve little to none of the blame. Arrowhead, as the business entity who voluntarily entered into an agreement with Sony to have this requirement in their game in the first place, definitely deserves the blame. Whatever project lead thought this was an acceptable concession to make in order to secure funding from Sony was definitely not on the same page as the rest of the team who actually made the game.

Seeing a lot of parallels to the Cyberpunk 2077 launch; beautiful game created by a passionate team who loved their craft, massively damaged by short-sighted, greedy decisions by studio execs.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I feel sorry for the Arrowhead devs. They made a spectacular game that was revered across the entire industry and loved by its fans, and their overlords at Sony went and caused so much damage to their reputation overnight. Literally just 24 hours ago people were writing articles about how Helldivers 2 is the right way to make a game and should be an example for the rest of the industry, and then Sony calls in a hellbomb on the reviews.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

This is the case with every cross-platform game I've played on PS. PS logo for PS players, a generic icon for everybody else. Makes it really frustrating in crossplay games when I have to ask myself "Did I somehow get placed into a M&K lobby, or is this guy just a Xim cheater?"

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

The reason is that Sony wants more data. There's no technical reason for it, as the game has already worked fine without it for months. This is just Sony clamping down on a promise they quietly made and that most people forgot about.

As for the extra hoops, if you're still wanting to play the game and don't already have a PSN account, you'll need to make a free one and link it. It shouldn't require any additional logins after the initial link, so after the initial account setup there shouldn't be any additional change to the process of logging in and playing.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Aren't most throwaway email services already blocked by Reddit?

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

What a dumb move, timing this with trying to convince people to buy the new warbond. Hopefully Sony reverses this decision after seeing how badly this damages the health of the game.

Unfortunately for those requesting refunds, unless you're in an area that's soon to be excluded, you likely won't get your money back. The game has had the requirement for the PSN account linking listed on the Steam page since day 1, so it's unlikely that Valve will do much in this situation.

Arrowhead isn't free of guilt in this, but Sony and Valve should have both done a much better job at making this clear to players earlier on, since they're in charge of marketing/sales on PC. Like, in-game messaging would have been good for this. They also should have never allowed the sale of the game on regions PSN isn't available to in the first place, since they already knew they would killswitch non-linked accounts eventually.

What a disappointing day for democracy.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I'm pretty sure that, even under guidance from a support rep, Sony would still ban your account for not registering it in a valid country if they ever somehow detected it.

They really need to put out some concise messaging on this, ASAP.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Yeah, allowing the game to be sold in regions where PSN isn't available was a huge fuck-up. Sony and Valve really dropped the ball here.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

Oh, you believe in the viability of a third party vote in 2024. Sorry, I thought I was taking to a serious person, my bad.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I'm not giving Trump an advantage by throwing away my vote, so I'd argue that I do have a moral high ground in this case. By (effectively) not voting, you're demonstrating that you wanna see how Trump will handle Israel, instead. That's not a concession I'm willing to make, myself.

Chozo ,
Chozo avatar

I do speak out against it, I'm not sure why you assume I wouldn't. However, my options at the polls remain: Vote Trump, and help Trump suck Bibi's dick, vote Biden and help Biden suck Bibi's dick, or not vote/vote third party and go back to helping Trump suck Bibi's dick.

No matter what, the US's stance on Israel is still going to be shit and we'll continue supporting their genocide. But I'm gonna go with the guy who at least shows some resistance to Israel (however pitiful it may be).

This isn't the kind of year to be goofing around with your vote for the sake of sending a message because, in case you haven't noticed, there's a fuckin genocide happening right now and Trump would be the worst possible choice for handling a genocide. Save the third party push for a time when it actually has a chance; active genocides are not that time, and it's incredibly selfish to hold your values over the actual victims of genocide.

You can vote how you want, I can't change that. But just know that by voting third party this year, you're effectively doing the most possible damage to Gaza, in the name of showing how much you support them. I dunno how the binding irony of it hasn't already snapped you back to reality yet.

Chozo ,

Fixing the DoT bug is going to make a lot of "bad" builds a lot more usable. I love the orbital gas for its near-constant uptime, but it could be so much better if it was working correctly.

There's also some rumors from dataminers that we'll be getting several new gas weapons in the future, which I hope means that Arrowhead are confident in fixing that particular bug with so much fire and gas being released lately.
