It's a clear explainer of #Mastodon, #ActivityPub and the #fediverse. It makes the case for public media to join the network. It mentions running a server versus joining an established one.
And above all, it's a public broadcaster walking the walking instead of just griping about X and then going back to X.
We started this account less than 6 months ago. It's going pretty well – thanks to you: 4.2k followers, lots of interactions, questions, and comments. 🎉
A couple of weeks ago, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) asked us to write a guest article about our experience with #Mastodon / the #Fediverse, explain the basics, and point out the advantages. :mastodon:
Challenge accepted. 👍
So here's the finished post by @lxplm, hot off the #blog press. ⌨️
How animals act as the circulatory system of our planet - by eating, pooping, and dying
In a new book titled “Eat, Poop, Die - how animals make our world," conservation biologist Joe Roman details all the ways that the biological activities of animals make and remake our world - and explores how protecting animals can help fix some of the damage humans have done. #cbc#news#Radio#Quirks&Quarks https://www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks/how-animals-act-as-the-circulatory-system-of-our-planet-by-eating...
Cut, colour and cats: This N.L. salon is helping these kitties find their furever home
Gander’s Strand Salon offers the regular services, but its surprising and informal partnership with the SPCA has proved to be an successful one. This year, co-owners Amber Hanlon and Amy Cheeks say they’ve had 16 cats call their business home (albeit temporarily) before kitties and clients go awa... #cbc#news https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/cut-colour-and-cats-this-gander-salon-is-hel...
We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.
Meanwhile at the #CBC, they're uncritically publishing "expert" dreck like "We're going to have more infections among the population this year, partly because our immune systems haven't been stimulated by this group of infectious agents over the last three or four years."
C'mon CBC. The last 3 or 4y have had historically high levels of RSV, influenza and other respiratory diseases in most Canadian areas.
And no mention of immune senescence after #SARS-CoV-2. That story broke years ago.
So, CBC, we go back, I care about you, but if you can't do the most basic fact checking it feels like you're trying to harm yourself and others, and I'm worried about you.
Another "expert": it's just mucus from previous infections, "All of that gunk has to be coughed out."
Oh and "Some people … get to the point of actually using inhalers for asthma," Abdulla said. "Not only do they have a cough, but they also have some wheezing and airway restriction."
Just like in years past, right, where if we didn't catch a cold for a couple of years, we might be coughing for months and suddenly need an asthma inhaler. Those good ol' days!
"Israeli quadcopter drones opened fire on Palestinians who had gathered to receive flour brought by UN trucks. Fifty Palestinians were killed and dozens more were injured" https://euromedmonitor.org/en/article/6098
#CBC’s Front Burner had one of #Canada’s foremost authorities on genocide in international Law, William Schabas on, who believes South Africa’s request for provisional measures against Israel will be granted, and frankly discusses the issues, while explaining Canada’s obligation to prevent genocide.
I grew to dislike Don Cherry years ago (when I was a little boy) as well, highly vocal and annoying AF! I grew to like him tremendously in 2009. Looking back at the older #CoachsCorner segments on #YouTube with a younger DC.. I really like it!! Too bad as a boy I couldn’t tolerate it. DC has toned down a lot, his health is not as good as it was I figured. (2-2) #HNOM#HNIC#CBC#NYR 🗽🏒 #Habs 👻
