If you watched movies and TV in the 1980s, you knew Dabney Coleman for his comic roles in “9 to 5,” “Tootsie,” and “Buffalo Bill.” Coleman died Thursday at 92, his daughter Quincy Coleman told The Hollywood Reporter. “My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,” she said in a statement. From Lily Tomlin to Ben Stiller, fellow actors are also paying tribute to the award-winning actor. THR has more: https://flip.it/huRaxh #Culture#Entertainment#TV#Movies
When we saw that @IndieWire had chatted with Gary Oldman, we thought that meant "Slow Horses" was on its way back to Apple. Alas, we have to wait until the fall for that, but in the meantime, enjoy this interview, in which he talks about his favorite "Succession," line, why he loves playing the slovenly Jackson Lamb, and his love of reality TV. “I wanted to be on ‘Project Runway,'” Oldman told Ben Travers. “I wanted to be a judge.”
Today, May 11, 2256, on Stardate 1207.3, the crew of the USS Shenzhou investigate a damaged interstellar relay in deep space and discover an unidentified object (Star Trek: Discovery, s01e01 “The Vulcan Hello”, 2017)
I liked the baddie being The Algorithm that pits the people against themselves for capitalism and war and profit.
Defeating it by the power of paternity is a bit twee. Don't often concentrate on The Doctor being a father/grandfather and have him relate to people (or uploaded AI people) "As a father".
It was indeed the power to run away taken from The Doctor forced to stand on one leg for a while and still all episode.
The writers are still not really managing to contextualize how new Ruby's relationship with the Doctor is. It's been six months and she knows him well enough to stay what he's always like but this is her first alien sky?
It's all systems go for a new series set in the same universe as "The Office." Variety reports that a mockumentary set at a dying historic Midwestern newspaper, ostensibly shot by the crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin, has been picked up for a full series at Peacock. Here's more:
The oldest entry on IndieWire's list of the best teen dramas was first broadcast in 1979, but the majority of shows that made the cut are from after 2000, when there was a huge boom in the genre. Here's the magazine's ranking of 42 shows. Which do you think came in at No. 1? Take a look at the list after you've voted and tell us if you think they got it right.
Just finished the re-watch of Person of Interest. Like 10 minutes ago. God damn what a show. Still teary eyed. Needed a good cry after some heavy existential stuff I’ve been going through. The show did not hold back.
From a somewhat campy start with interesting philosopical implications to it’s incredibly heavy, dark, and impactful finish. Glad we re-watched it. Felt more relevant than ever.
The rating of #Netflix 's #GoodByeEarth continues to plummet in TMDB, IMDB, Trakt, MyDramaList, thanks to the unrelated English title, & incorrect marketing.
They should've translated the Japanese/Korean titles instead, which set the correct expectations.
This week in the Disconnect Roundup I’m reflecting on how bias affects tech coverage as I find my own positive views toward Sony affecting how I see the Paramount acquisition talks. Plus, the usual recommended reads, labor updates, and other tech news!
Please boost. There's a free working 50" plasma tv from 2008 by a dumpster at purdue fort wayne student housing, near building I. It used to be mine. Pick it up before it rains! I don't want it destroyed, I just couldn't take it when I moved out. :(
Built-in sound doesn't work, after a main board replacement to fix HDMI. Get some speakers. Bring a friend, it's heavy. #FortWayne#tv#free#indiana
A new genre of cookbooks is providing recipes for all your favorite TV and movie meals, from the hobbits' lembas bread and the pies of Azeroth to Monica's onion galette from "Friends." Some of the biggest of these books sell hundreds of thousands of copies. Esquire's Callum Bains talked to recipe developers about the challenges of re-creating fictional food, and why they think people are interested in eating it. “It’s just a whole other way to cosplay,” says Elena Craig, who’s written cookbooks for the worlds of "Harry Potter," "Deadpool," and "Hocus Pocus." We want to know, what do you think is the most delicious TV show or movie? For the purposes of this poll, we're conflating series/franchises and individual movies and TV shows. Tell us in the comments if we've missed a really obvious one!
The English title #GoodbyeEarth sets it as #scifi , they should've simply translated it as “The End's Fool” or “An Apocalyptic Fool”; that's the title in Korean #종말의바보 & the original Japanese novel #伊坂幸太郎 . It's a life #drama .
What makes it crazier, in the two official posters from Netflix, they transliterated the original Japanese novel, as if their “English” audience will understand it. They should've transliterated the Korean title instead of using “Goodbye Earth”; since transliteration is fine by them.
EXO's Zhang Lay (张艺兴) vision in #ShowItAll ( #百分百出品 ) E05 is very broadminded. Basically, he's promoting that all cultures are equal and we should not force our culture on others.
I wonder if he'll be okay after this. coughPRCcough
Highlander TV. This time, with a serious continuity. The original franchise messed its continuity.
Highlander MMO. It should be a sandbox MMO and there should be three modes: unli-life (subscription); limited permadeath (buy-to-play, or a store item); permadeath or 1-life (free-to-play).
a. Unli-life: Players can resurrect again after they were defeated by a Highlander. However, they resurrect as a new character (for obvious reasons). They only carry with them their previous character's assets, fame, and what not.
b. Limited permadeath. After XX resurrections (similar to unli-life), the last chance is permadeath. A player will have to completely restart. OR, if they don't buy a resu store item, they'll have to completely restart.
c. Permadeath. Players always restart fresh after being defeated by another Highlander. They won't inherit anything from their previous character.
Ultima TV + Films.
Ultima 4 should be a TV series. With all the virtues playing an important role (that's the plot anyway).
Ultima 5 can be a film.
Ultima 6 a TV series.
Ultima 7 Part 1 a TV series.
Ultima 7 Part 2 a TV series.
Ultima 8 a movie.
DragonLance TV + films.
TV Season 1 a prequel to War of the Lance.
War of the Lance first movie.
TV S02, the side-stories during War of the Lance. It complements the first movie, and sets the stage for the second movie.
TV S03 + Movie 3.
We can also have a Lord Loren Soth spin-off. Which culminates into meeting Mina, which will set the stage for a possible Mina spin-off (and the death of Takhisis).
The Knights of Solamnia spin-off. (Web series?)
The Blue Lady spin-off (web series? Also a good supplement for the War of the Lance movies.)
And so on.
Forgotten Realms
TV series for Azure Bonds. S01 to S05.
Can have a spin-off series for Curse of the Azure Bonds, focusing on a the unfortunate party. Maybe for 2 seasons only.
