Got banned on TikTok for posting a non graphic, non violent post about starving palestinians in Gaza.

They didn't even let me download my data.

And they are telling us is not controlling the social media, even the freaking is bending backwards for them.

(The images that got me banned are attached)

So I’ve been here a little while and I still poke my head into ig now and then but im not invested anymore.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in my mental health. Huge.

Ive also noticed when I talk to friends on ig or twitter or TikTok it feels a little bit like talking to smokers.

I feel like a scold but I also feel like…you know this is bad for you. Why are you still on there? And worse, why are you getting news there?

Anyone else have this experience?

This is what the TikTok app logs about you when you use it.

Read everything in the picture very carefully!

The worst part is that this amount of logging (and sometimes much more logging) is very common from many tech companies, especially from Meta and Microsoft.

These companies literally owns you! Let it sink in.

As the US considers banning TikTok
it is important to keep in mind the problem with the social media giant isn't legal jurisdiction alone. 👮‍♀️

I don't know if I should bother making a new account or just give up TikTok

I'm no longer shaddowban, I'm blocked from posting, or actually I can post, bit none of my posts are visible to anyone. No matter content.

It's the same with my repost of others, they are not showing up in my stream or main stream of TikTok.

Fascism silencing of anti Genocide voices is strong there, and even that is not enough for Americans and Israelis, they want to stop them completely.

If there are any other #fediverse developers working on a TikTok like platform for the fediverse:

Maybe we can join forces and work together with Loops, and if not, lets keep in touch so we can work on #activitypub compatibility?

I'm already working closely with @stux on #Goldfish, which is shaping up to be a serious fedi TikTok contender!

If the other social-media giants are as bad as TikTok — as the what-about-ers point out — the proper question still isn't "Why TikTok?" but "Why not TikTok?"

In a blockbuster vote earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives easily passed a bill that would force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell or the app would be banned in the United States. @theverge explores how the revived bill “jumped suddenly from the pile of forgotten ideas.” Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), who authored the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, told reporters “The fact that we didn’t leak the content of those negotiations to the media, it’s just a function of how serious our members were.” https://flip.it/xzzXQi

The parent company of , ByteDance, functions as a joint venture in which the government is both a partner and the ultimate boss.

According to Shaomin Li, who has studied China’s economy and business for 40 years, both ByteDance and the Chinese Communist Party know who’s in charge, even if that relationship isn’t reflected in ownership and law.

He says that’s why it wouldn’t be enough for TikTok’s data to live on a US server.
