Do you experience unexplained crashes or freeze-ups on your Ubuntu (or other) Linux based home theater PC or gaming system? Here is a possible fix!
After installing Ubuntu 22.04, Kodi on a home theater PC would frequently freeze. This issue, applicable to various Linux distros, can be resolved by increasing the vm.max_map_count value in sysctl.conf. This setting controls the maximum number of memory map areas a process may have, crucial for applications like Kodi that use numerous memory-mapped files.

The first post of this new account on this instance may have resolved a problem I've been trying to figure out for over 2 years! Fingers crossed!
While I'm not using Kodi, I have been having these random crashes.
My sysctl.conf didn't have a value for vm.max_map_count, but when I ran "sudo cat /proc/sys/vm/max_map_count" I saw it was set to the default of 65,530.
The depressing point is:
I need a VPN app like #NetGuard to block apps which violating my privacy.
I need Kodi and #OpenSource Software to have a seamless integration of two Services in one app.
But one thing is cool. The Rest API of Kodi will allow to steer the TV.
I currently use the #libreelec on a raspi as an Alarmclock in the morning #nodered start online radio.
If everything works there is a plan for may use it with #Moonlight as gamestation.
In the near future I will also create a Videophone for my grandma with #Threemalibre from #Fdroid.
A lot of newer Android-TV-Settop-Boxes are ready for AV1, for example products from Orbsmart.de like my Orbsmart S87L.
On that box is Kodi preinstalled and you can install everything from android-stores, also the Jellybin-client.
Don't forget: Jellybin is a very good open-source-software, but a client-server-system. So you need Hardware for the server-software.
#AskFedi Anyone know of a good music library manager for Mobile Linux? (esp. Phosh/GNOME)
I like the aesthetic and background playback features of Amberol, but it can't do playlists or scrobble my listens to last.fm. I like the functionality of Lollypop, but it crashes too much and the UI/UX is awful.
It's multimedia though, so for music, gallery, TV, and movies, and is cross-platform. With an optional add-ons that will pull metadata to update the songs.
People can be as upset about this as they want, but so long as they continue to watch #YouTube they continue tacitly supporting their user-hostile actions. If you really want to make a difference, stop watching, and tell content creators why. When you can convince them to move to platforms that don't shove ads down your throat every 3 minutes, THAT is when you'll see #Google change their tune.
@tilvids If you really want to see less #YouTube usage then develop a #Kodi addon that supports #PeerTube or whatever other service you consider a replacement. Because I watch most videos on my TV, not my computer, using Kodi.
Oh, and do what you need to in order to get your addon accepted into the official Kodi addon repository. I don't get addons from janky third-party sites.
Oh, you don't know how to make a Kodi addon? Well neither do I. Or maybe you think there's not enough people like me to try making an alternative addon? Sorry about that, I guess YouTube is my only choice then.
All you folks who think that YouTube videos are only viewed on phones need to wake up. There are many other ways to watch online videos and virtually all of them support YouTube. When they support a viable alternative, maybe folks will switch to that, or at least reduce their use of YouTube.
Today we're doing something a bit different and talking to the president of the Kodi foundation and a #Kodi developer about the state of the project. #Linux#xbmc
