"In December,...civilian casualty figures reported by #Hamas...indicated discrepancies...reported numbers, particularly those of women and children compared to men and combatants, are significantly exaggerated.
A May 9 OCHA update...significantly altered the portrayal of casualty figures...the #UN effectively conceding the untrustworthiness of Hamas figures...parroted by various media outlets."
But that's not all. "Honest" Reporting is so ethically bankrupt that when they got called out by #Reuters slandering a #journalist, they replied that they were just saying shit, and were not responsible for the consequences of "asking questions."
This website is clearly the bottom of the barrel, and even #Zionist people should be ashamed of using it.
Ok but how is restricting #pressfreedom antiethical to #democracy? If anything it arguably is the opposite because it seems like the Israeli people wanted #AlJazeera banned within their country. The Israeli government is just following the will of their people. If that's not damn democracy then I don't know what else it is.
I do think it's bad for AJ to be banned. My brother used to be a #journalist for Reuters and therefore I tend to have a soft spot for international reporting. But selfishness aside in a war like this it is ever more important for people to be getting different perspectives from established media, and that includes AJ. It keeps governments in check.
Just admit it. If the US banned newspapers like NYT or Times of Israel you probably wouldn't care as much as you do for AJ. You're not for freedom of the #press; just the press that agrees with you. :seija_coffee:
#Canada just lost an amazing #medical writer and #journalist. Joan Hollobon was 104 when she passed Wednesday morning. She was a friend and role model who inspired me to go into the field I'm in. She was a good writer who chased the facts. I've heard her at press conferences challenge researchers for sloppy work, and praise those whose studies were impeccable.
She was feisty and didn't hold back. She was also a founder of the Canadian Science Writers' Association. She broke a lot of territory as one of the early women in journalism, working in a field that was traditionally a man's profession. She had a high standard of #ethics and challenged people if she saw conflicts of interest or bad behaviour. The world needs more like her. She'll be missed.
Andre Picard of the Globe &Mail is writing an obit about her that is expected to be published Saturday 13, April.
For the three reporters who have written articles about this, and the one who provided invaluable guidance, my gratitude is endless. This post doesn't apply to you, nor "the feds", the cybersecurity experts, or #lawyers (including and especially @eff), who were extremely helpful. The rest, however, should take note.
I've willingly laid my neck on a chopping block, unprotected, for over six months.
My outreach has been exhaustive:
• Attempted to engage with over 150 journalists and #news organizations,
• Coordinated frequently with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (#CISA or "the feds"),
• Consulted with numerous cybersecurity experts,
• Sought advice from multiple lawyers,
• Spoke with ten state and state court CISOs,
• Attempted to talk to several dozen state and county court clerks and judges,
• Sent emails to every Florida State Senator, State Representative, and Supreme Court justice, and to multiple governors,
• Discussed with the staff of multiple U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives,
• Contacted twelve vendors and over 40 employees
I've offered to write articles -- for free.
I've had no fewer than eight background checks done on me.
I've been cyberstalked by the Arizona Supreme Court.
I've put my job and my family's livelihood at risk in more ways than one.
I've made a grand total of $0; in fact, I've invested several hundred.
When I'm able to sleep, it's with one eye open, always waiting for "that" knock on the door.
After my first #disclosure, I prepared for a week to deal with what I expected to be a #media circus. What I received was one preemptive email from a state court #CISO (who was not affected) and one kind person (who is not a #journalist) on the #fediverse.
I've spent over 900 hours discovering, documenting, reporting, and disclosing vulnerabilities, trying to get this fixed on a mass scale, and attempting to contact the above list. I see no signs of this slowing down any time soon. All of this for what is merely a #hobby.
I've done my part. It's time for reporters to step up. The real-world harm these vulnerabilities have caused — and continue to cause — cannot be overstated. The need for widespread awareness and action is urgent.
Reporters Without Borders raises concern over the disappearance of Palestinian #journalist Bayan Abusultan, who was last seen on 19/3 among those sequestered in the Israeli raid on al-Shifa hospital in #Gaza.
The last tweet Bayan posted was witnessing the killing of her brother by Israeli forces in front of her eyes.
Female Palestinian #journalist and ex-prisoner Bushra Tawil was arrested by Israeli occupation soldiers last night during a raid into the city of Al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank.
According to eyewitnesses, Al-Tawil was subjected to a brutal attack by soldiers during a field investigation at the first moments of her arrest.

A question I get asked often as a #football#journalist is what are the players like. To be honest, the majority are entitled arseholes and it pains me to see how they’re fawned over by supporters. Notable exceptions of course.
David Tuller DrPH Interview with journalist Ed Yong
"Last month, Yong wrote an opinion piece for The New York Times in which he discussed what he learned as a #journalist from covering #longCovid. He & I spoke earlier today about the Times piece, how he came to grasp the seriousness of long #Covid, & related stuff." 35 minutes.
#CNN Runs #Gaza Coverage Past #Jerusalem Team Operating Under Shadow of #IDF#Censor
Whether reporting from the Middle East, the United States, or anywhere else across the globe, every CNN #journalist covering Israel and Palestine must submit their work for review by the news organization’s bureau in Jerusalem prior to publication, under a long-standing CNN policy. https://theintercept.com/2024/01/04/cnn-israel-gaza-idf-reporting/
