Ryan Salame (former CEO of the Bahamian portion of FTX) has submitted his sentencing memo. He's asked for no more than 18 months imprisonment for his charges.
He was charged with conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business and conspiracy to make unlawful political contributions and defraud the Federal Election Commission.
Assuming you're an anarchist or otherwise leftist radical, what radicalized your position?
For me it was a combination of seeing the rampart corruption of the Greek state and the sloth and hypocrisy of the KKE in my own family. Then afterwards it was the alienation of my own wage-slavery.
We started this account less than 6 months ago. It's going pretty well – thanks to you: 4.2k followers, lots of interactions, questions, and comments. 🎉
A couple of weeks ago, the European Broadcasting Union (#EBU) asked us to write a guest article about our experience with #Mastodon / the #Fediverse, explain the basics, and point out the advantages. :mastodon:
Challenge accepted. 👍
So here's the finished post by @lxplm, hot off the #blog press. ⌨️
@dw_innovation Since you're posting mostly articles, do consider (cross-)posting to #lemmy as well, as it's way more set for these sort of posts. You can even post in to lemmy from mastodon by @-ing the community you want.
If you haven't heard, sadly, #ChirpSocial, one of the popular #ActivityPub “groups” platform, is shutting down “probably” on February 29th.
In an email they sent to admins, the owner and developer can no longer support https://chirp.social financially as they failed to find a new job after they were laid off by #Google last year.
This reminds us the importance of having a built-in groups feature, and one where the groups feature actually federates.
Back in 2008, when the #Fediverse was born, we did have a built-in federated groups in #Laconica / #StatusNet (today known as #GNUsocial). We used bang (!) instead of at (@). A built-in groups feature is more stable as established instances can host them.
Today, we have #Friendica and #Hubzilla (as well as #Streams-based instances) to fill in that, as groups is a built-in feature in those software products. It's just a matter of finding an instance that's open to hosting groups for any topic for the ActivityPub protocol.
That said, any Friendica, Hubzilla, Streams-based instances you suggest for groups?
My anti-spam #lemmy automoderator bot #Threativore is now available as a docker container and it is now fully enabled for reporting, removing, and banning. Here's my lemmy announcement: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/15112791
As someone who grew up poor and with very little access to global culture, I shake my head sadly with those people who talk about #AIArt with the same moralism people were making against #piracy.
This didn't work then, it won't work now. People without money or time can't and won't support artists. If their only option is to use ML tools to create and share what is in their brain, they will do that instead.
All the arguments against this are privileged "you wouldn't download a car" territory
I keep trying to take down certain ransomware groups and different DDoS groups in my spare time and the number one thing stopping me now is threat intelligence firms and law enforcement, who have vested interests in letting attacks continue.
I think a more punk approach may be coming as the status quo sucks.
The era of AI is here — and the need to develop products that are responsible, ethical and put humans first is key to our future. 🌐
All week long we'll be giving you a sneak peek at innovation projects and ways that Mozilla is experimenting in the AI space. Be sure to follow along here! http://future.mozilla.org/innovation-week
@mozilla nice. I hope you actually support FOSS initiatives around AI instead of doing work that will benefit massive profit driven corpos like openai.
@maegul If mastodon ever implements QT and it would be possible for replies to the QT to be considered to be replying to the original comment somehow, it would be optimal tbh
I want to make our little corner of the fediverse a bit more unique, so I thought it might be a cool idea to take some classic memes and use the AI Horde to customize them for our respective themes....
I feel we need to tighten the #lemmy integration into microblogging services like #mastodon to have an advantage over #reddit. Microblogging has orders of magnitude more active users than lemmy, and a lot of the same discussions are happening in both places. If we could more seamlessly unify these discussions when wanted by the participants, it would help get over this "chicken and egg" problem that the #threadiverse is in.
Since the beginning of this year I've been maintaining a Mastodon server blocklist called Garden Fence, available at https://gardenfence.github.io/
As the Discord admin space that was being used to coordinate with other admins on the list has since closed, I've set up the account @gardenfence to pick up communication and notifications around the blocklist.
In particular I hope to expand the list of volunteer reference servers in the near future to replace a server that plans to leave the list, to keep the list at a reasonable size.
@brook@gardenfence Just to clarify, each of the censures is effectively from individual servers. The censures from lemmy.dbzer0.com match the blocklist of the same instance.
@Martineski Finally mastodon started expanding linked images by default! So now ADHD memes are boostable on mastodon. Pity it's not possible to attach a tag though.
The scope of building a large #FOSS webservice is so large, it's impossible for one person to handle it alone. But it's also very very difficult to find competent and trustworthy people to cover the aspects you cannot. Especially DBAs!
A #DBA could be considered like the healer in a "Holy Trinity" game (Tank/Healer/DPS). It's the role everyone needs but very few enjoy doing.
If you find a competent and trustworthy DBA to help your FOSS project. They're worth their weight in gold!
It's a fine balance. For a #fediverse service like #firefish, or a custom one like the #aihorde this needs so many skills, it's very difficult for one to know all of them. You need:
The fediblock account is stopping operation because mastodon.art retaliated against their parent instance with silencing because of a credible #fediblock report deduplication by @fediblock for .art , until the admin behind the fediblock account steps down from their own instance? And that admin is actually quitting the fediverse? WHAT?!
Mastodon has some wild drama I'll tell you... I'm glad I'm a #threadiverse addict instead.
The #Fediseer has gotten 2 massive updates today. Hesitations are a milder version of Censures and can be used, for example, to Silence instances instead of deferating them.
Proxied PMs now allow a lot more Apub software like Pleroma and Misskey forks to claim their instances on fediseer. Just make sure you allow @fediseer to DM you!
@fediseer Fediseer can now censure wildcard domains
You can now censure an a wildcard domain on #fediseer which can be useful for ingesting your censures intto a blocklist for problematic domains who are playing games.
Reminder that I've built a FOSS service to combat spam and easily collaborate, publish and combine blocks, whitelists and generically speaking approvals/disapprovals
It provides a simple REST API you can connect to automation for your instance to automatically update white/block lists, or just use it to mark content for review etc.
